What is the most important thing you do everyday?

“If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.”
― Amit Ray

What is the most important thing that you do every day?  Breathing is the most important thing that you do every day.  For all other functions are dependent upon it.

Why breathing is the most important thing you do?

You can live several days without food.  I recently heard of someone, a friend of a friend who didn’t eat for forty-five days.  That's hard to imagine.  Somedays it feels like I can’t go forty-five minutes without eating something.   You can live a few days without water.  If you live in the Phoenix area that might be a shorter amount of time, but you will live for a day or two without water.  However, if you are not breathing your continued existence will be measured in minutes.  Clearly, breathing is the most important activity that you do.

Follow your breath

Create the habits that shape your mind so you can shape your life.  Shape the life you want.  Be like a sculptor.  You are the sculptor of your life.  Part of shaping that life is living in the present moment.  When you are honest with yourself, you don’t spend much time there.  The mind prefers to live in the past and the future.  These two moments only exist in your mind.  By following your breath, you are residing in the present moment.

Practice, Practice, Practice

If you want to get to Carnegie Hall as an entertainer, you must practice.  If you want to get to the present moment, you must practice awareness of the present moment.  That is why following your breath is one of the best methods to get to the present.  For the breath has no past, it has no future, it only is; right here, right now.  Start right now to make a commitment to creating the habit of following your breath and living in the moment.
